Germany’s ZF Group, a global leader in automotive and industrial technology, has announced the opening of a new manufacturing facility in Coimbatore, further expanding its footprint in the Indian market. Marking its 19th manufacturing plant in India and the 11th site in Tamil Nadu, ZF has invested €20 million (approximately ₹192 crore) in the new facility, underscoring its commitment to localising advanced technologies and supporting the country’s mobility transformation.
The new plant will cater to the growing needs of the construction and railway sectors, manufacturing cutting-edge transmission systems for both domestic and global OEMs. The site will produce the ERGOPOWER M transmission—an automatic power-shift system renowned for its efficiency and adaptability across various construction machinery applications. Recognised as a market benchmark for performance and durability, the ERGOPOWER M transmission is a key enabler for India’s booming infrastructure segment.
In addition, ZF will localise production of its EcoMet transmission at the Coimbatore facility to serve the Indian railway sector. With over 100 years of experience in rail technology, ZF’s portfolio today includes driveline and chassis solutions alongside digital innovations like connect@rail, aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and safety in rail transport.
“India is a strategic market for ZF Group, and we focus on India for its engineering and manufacturing capabilities—driven by a rapidly growing domestic market,” said Peter Laier, Member of the ZF Group Board of Management and Head of Commercial Vehicle Solutions and Industrial Technology. “This facility aligns with our global strategy of growth closer to customers and reaffirms ZF’s dedication to fostering innovation and growth in this pivotal market.”
With this expansion, ZF continues to deepen its engagement in India, supporting the country’s Make in India initiative while also meeting the global demand for high-performance, localised solutions in transportation and mobility.
