In a major move to strengthen its presence in the Indian telecom market, Sweden-based telecom giant Ericsson announced plans to manufacture all its antennas for the Indian market locally by June this year. The company aims to meet the rising demand fueled by the rapid expansion of 5G services by major Indian operators like Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio.
Ericsson, which has been manufacturing in India since 1994, will now fully localise its passive antenna production within the country. The manufacturing operations will be based in Gurgaon, in collaboration with its local partner VVDN Technologies. Additionally, the company’s logistics hub in Pune will continue to support distribution and supply chain operations across the region.
The strategic expansion comes at a time when Ericsson faces a slowdown in orders from its largest market, the United States. However, strong momentum in India, driven by aggressive 5G rollouts, is helping balance its global operations.
“With this initiative, we are reinforcing our commitment to India’s telecom ecosystem. After fulfilling domestic needs, we also anticipate exporting a significant portion of the antennas manufactured here,” a company spokesperson said.
Ericsson already operates manufacturing facilities in Mexico, Romania, and China. The decision to deepen its manufacturing footprint in India not only strengthens its regional supply capabilities but also aligns with India’s ‘Make in India’ initiative, encouraging multinational companies to boost local production.
As India continues its digital transformation journey with 5G expansion, Ericsson’s increased local manufacturing is poised to play a critical role in supporting the next phase of connectivity growth across the country and beyond.
