Tata Motors PV, and Stellantis Expand Partnership for Global Vehicle Development

The agreement will combine vehicle architecture and technology capabilities with global engineering expertise, with vehicles to be manufactured in India for over 50 international markets.

Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd (TMPV) and Stellantis have expanded their long-standing partnership to include advanced vehicle technology and product development, strengthening India’s role in their global manufacturing and export operations.

The companies signed a definitive agreement on October 12, 2026, building on their existing manufacturing relationship. Under the expanded collaboration, Tata Motors PV will provide Stellantis access to its vehicle architecture and product technology capabilities, which will be used alongside Stellantis’ engineering and product development operations in India to develop vehicles for international markets.

The vehicles developed under the agreement will be manufactured at Fiat India Automobiles Private Ltd (FIAPL), a 50:50 joint venture between Tata Motors PV and Stellantis. The companies plan to cater to customers across more than 50 global markets, addressing varying regulatory requirements, operating conditions and customer preferences.

Building on a two-decade relationship

The agreement follows a memorandum of understanding signed in February 2026 to explore opportunities in manufacturing, engineering and supply chains in India and overseas. The latest development formalises cooperation in vehicle technology and architecture, extending the partnership beyond its existing manufacturing scope.

Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, said the relationship with Stellantis had grown over more than two decades, supported by mutual trust and complementary capabilities.

He noted that the expanded collaboration would enable Stellantis to leverage Tata Motors PV’s technology and vehicle architecture expertise to develop products for international markets. The partnership also presents an opportunity to combine the companies’ strengths to deliver vehicles engineered and manufactured in India for domestic and overseas customers.

Focus on exports and engineering capabilities

Tianshu Xin, Chief Operating Officer of Stellantis’ Asia-Pacific region, said the agreement would bring together Tata Motors’ capabilities in India with Stellantis’ global product development expertise and international market reach.

The collaboration is expected to support the development of competitive vehicles in India while expanding export opportunities across international markets. It also reinforces India’s position as a manufacturing and vehicle development hub within Stellantis’ global operations.

Stellantis has a portfolio of 14 automotive brands and operates across Europe, North America, South America, the Middle East, Africa and Asia-Pacific. By combining its global engineering and market expertise with Tata Motors PV’s technology capabilities and manufacturing infrastructure, the companies aim to strengthen their ability to develop and produce vehicles for a wider range of international markets.
