ZF Drives into India’s Electric Future with Major AxTrax 2 Order for Commercial Vehicles

ZF’s Commercial Vehicle Solutions (CVS) division has clinched a major win in the Indian market, securing a multi-year contract to supply several thousand units of its next-generation AxTrax 2 electric axle. This landmark order marks the debut of ZF’s advanced electric driveline technology in India, which will power a new fleet of zero-emission intercity buses.

The AxTrax 2, an innovative axle-based system, will be at the heart of India’s shift toward greener transportation solutions. Designed to replace traditional engines, transmissions, and axles, the AxTrax 2 delivers an impressive 210 kW of continuous power while maintaining a compact and lightweight design. Developed from ZF’s modular e-mobility kit, it integrates high-tech, in-house components to ensure outstanding efficiency and reliability.

Commenting on the milestone, Prof. Dr. Peter Laier, Member of the ZF Board of Management and head of the Commercial Vehicle Solutions division, emphasised the strategic importance of this win. “This nomination reflects how global manufacturers are increasingly turning to ZF’s comprehensive technology portfolio to power their electrification journeys,” said Laier. “Our tailored solutions not only support sustainable mobility but also help customers achieve superior Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) advantages.”

Laier further highlighted that ZF’s cross-divisional expertise in electric drive technology positions the company as a trusted partner in enabling the transformation toward cleaner and more efficient commercial mobility.

The introduction of AxTrax 2 in India comes at a pivotal time, as the country ramps up efforts to electrify its transportation networks, particularly in public and intercity travel sectors. By integrating ZF’s cutting-edge electric axle, the new buses are expected to offer a reliable, high-performance, and environmentally friendly mobility solution to Indian commuters.

With this major order, ZF reinforces its commitment to India’s growing e-mobility landscape and underscores its leadership in delivering future-ready solutions for the global commercial vehicle industry.
