PTG to Present Friction Stir Welding Expertise at IMTEX 2019

U.K.-based Precision Technologies Group (PTG) will be presenting the capabilities of its Powerstir range of friction stir welding machines at IMTEX – the Indian Machine Tool Exhibition.

“Our Powerstir friction stir welding technologies have long been recognised as providing an innovative way of creating superior high-strength joints, with proven weld quality, excellent mechanical properties, virtually no porosity and the opportunity for reduced wall thickness in many applications,” comments PTG Holroyd regional sales director, Steven Benn.

“The recent, rapid growth in the development of BEV and PHEV technologies has seen us receive increasing numbers of enquiries from organisations involved in the manufacture of electric vehicles,” he continues. “As such, we have developed FSW techniques specifically for the fabrication of lightweight, robust and highly aesthetic battery trays and housings, coolant units and vehicle body panels. We now look forward to showcasing our friction stir welding capabilities for the benefit of delegates at IMTEX 2019.”

Since their launch, PTG’s Powerstir machines have found particular favour with companies from across the avionics and high-speed rail sectors. In fact the company has built a number of 30m x 4m moving gantry Powerstir models that are used to produce what are believed to be the longest single FSW railway panel welds in China at over 15 metres in length.

In addition to friction stir welding, visitors to Stand A116b, will be able to learn more about PTG Holroyd Precision’s gear, rotor and thread grinding and rotor milling machines, which are widely regarded as producing the world’s most accurate rotors, gears and threads, as well as ultra-precise components for a broad range of industries. Sectors include heating, ventilation, aerospace, marine, power generation and high-end automotive.
