PETRONAS Lubricants India Pvt. Ltd. (PLIPL) and Tata Motors have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to pilot a structured and scalable model for the collection and recycling of used automotive lubricants across Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu.
The initiative aims to establish a more organised and traceable system for managing used lubricants by combining PLIPL’s specialised collection mechanisms with Tata Motors’ extensive authorised service network.
Under the collaboration, the partners will work towards strengthening the process from the responsible collection and storage of used lubricants to their recycling, with the potential to produce high-quality re-refined base oil. The model is intended to improve resource recovery while reducing the environmental risks associated with the improper disposal of used lubricants.
The partnership builds on a decade-long association between PETRONAS Lubricants India and Tata Motors. The latest collaboration expands this relationship into the area of used-oil circularity, with a focus on improving resource efficiency and promoting more responsible lubricant management practices.
The pilot across Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu is expected to provide a framework that can potentially be scaled to support a more circular approach to automotive lubricant use and recovery in India.
The initiative represents a joint effort by the two companies to strengthen responsible used-oil management and contribute to India’s transition towards a more resource-efficient and circular economy.
