On August 10 and 12, 2026, Gleason welcomed customers and industry professionals to its India Customer Seminars in Pune and Delhi. Under the theme “Advanced Gear Technology Solutions – Design, Manufacture, Measure,” the two events provided a comprehensive overview of current developments across the entire gear manufacturing value chain for cylindrical and bevel gears.
International Gleason experts shared their knowledge and practical experience in gear design, manufacturing, finishing, inspection, tooling and workholding. The program was designed to address both today’s production challenges and the increasing demands for productivity, quality and acoustic performance in modern gear applications.
The technical sessions began with a look at gear and transmission design using KISSsoft Design Software, highlighting the growing importance of integrated digital engineering tools in the development and optimisation of gear systems.
Cylindrical gear manufacturing technology lectures covered soft cutting of gears, including current applications, as well as hobbing, chamfering, shaping and power skiving processes, complemented by corresponding cutting tool systems, followed by an in-depth overview of hard finishing technologies, ranging from skive hobbing and gear honing to threaded wheel grinding and profile grinding.
For bevel gear manufacturers, the program addressed state-of-the-art bevel gear production systems, including bevel gear design and optimisation with GEMS Engineering and Manufacturing System, soft and hard machining processes, including bevel gear cutting, grinding, lapping, and testing, as well as latest tool systems.
Quality assurance and metrology represented another important part of the agenda. Experts discussed approaches for ensuring end-product quality as well as the latest developments in gear metrology, including single-flank and double-flank testing, tactile inspection at submicron level, as well as laser measuring of gears. Particular attention was paid to the interpretation and analysis of measurement results and their relationship to the noise and vibration behaviour of manufactured gears—an increasingly important consideration for applications with demanding NVH requirements.
The technical program was completed by an overview of the latest workholding developments, demonstrating how accurate and reliable clamping solutions contribute to process stability, productivity and consistent part quality throughout cylindrical and bevel gear manufacturing.
Beyond the presentations themselves, the seminars were characterised by exceptionally active participation. Both locations attracted a strong attendance and generated very positive feedback. The lively question-and-answer sessions following the presentations created ample opportunity for direct interaction between gear technology experts, detailed discussion of individual applications and clarification of specific technical challenges.
The exchange continued during the evening group dinners, where participants were able to connect in a more informal setting, strengthen relationships and continue many of the technical discussions initiated throughout the day.
For both the participating customers and the presenters, the Pune and Delhi seminars proved to be highly rewarding events. They combined technical expertise, practical manufacturing knowledge and open dialogue while demonstrating how closely design, manufacturing and measurement must interact to achieve competitive gear production.
The next opportunity for gear training will be the Gleason Bevel Gear School, Jan 28-29, 2027, with a focus on bevel gear technology basics and state-of-the-art manufacturing systems, further emphasising the company’s commitment to knowledge transfer and technical education.
