Bharat Forge Limited (BFL), a global leader in metal forging, has recently announced the commencement of operations at its next-generation defence manufacturing facility in Jejuri, near Pune. Spanning over 3 lakh square feet, the new plant marks a significant step forward in India’s indigenous defence production capabilities.
The Jejuri facility is dedicated to fulfilling orders from the Ministry of Defence (MoD) for the indigenously developed Advanced Towed Artillery Gun Systems (ATAGS), a next-generation 155mm howitzer system. These advanced artillery guns are poised to dramatically enhance the country’s firepower and help secure India’s vast and varied borders.
In a statement, the company highlighted the strategic importance of the new plant: “The ATAGS programme is a testament to Indian engineering excellence, and with this facility, we are laying the foundation for India’s long-term strategic defence technology independence.”
Bharat Forge also revealed that it has already initiated exports of the ATAGS to friendly nations, following approvals from the MoD and other relevant authorities, marking a milestone in India’s growing role in the global defence export market.
