India’s Gear Manufacturing Sector Builds Export Momentum

Germany, Mexico and Brazil record strong growth in imports of Indian gears, while overall exports increase from USD 284.4 million in Apr–Jul FY23 to USD 425.7 million in Apr–Jul FY27.

India’s exports of gears, gearboxes, speed changers and related transmission components registered a 14% year-on-year growth during April–July FY 2026–27, reaching USD 425.7 million, compared with USD 284.4 million during the corresponding period of FY 2022–23.

According to data released by the Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, the export performance reflects the expanding international presence of India’s gear manufacturing and power transmission industry, supported by growing demand across key global markets.

Among the major export destinations, Germany, Mexico and Brazil recorded notable increases in imports of Indian gear products. Exports to Germany rose from USD 17.9 million in Apr–Jul FY26 to USD 24.1 million in Apr–Jul FY27, registering an increase of approximately 34.6%.

Mexico recorded a particularly strong expansion, with exports increasing from USD 4.3 million in Apr–Jul FY23 to USD 14.5 million in Apr–Jul FY27. This represents a growth of approximately 237% over the comparison period. Brazil also registered a significant rebound, with exports rising from USD 6.3 million in Apr–Jul FY26 to USD 12.7 million in Apr–Jul FY27, representing an increase of approximately 101.6%.

The overall export growth of 14% over Apr–Jul FY26 highlights the continued competitiveness of Indian engineering products in international markets. The strong performance across Germany, Mexico and Brazil also points to emerging opportunities for Indian gear manufacturers to expand their geographical footprint and strengthen trade relationships.

For India’s gear and power transmission industry, the export momentum reinforces the importance of investments in advanced manufacturing technologies, precision engineering, product quality and global standards. Greater market diversification and stronger international supply chain integration will remain important to sustaining export growth and enhancing India’s position as a global manufacturing and sourcing destination.
