Mumbai/Tokyo: Tata Electronics and FUJIFILM Corporation have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to accelerate the development of India’s semiconductor materials ecosystem, with a focus on supporting Tata Electronics’ upcoming semiconductor fabrication facility in Dholera, Gujarat.
Under the partnership, Fujifilm will use its expertise in semiconductor materials to develop and supply materials suited to the requirements of Tata Electronics’ 300 mm semiconductor Fab. The collaboration will also focus on localising critical raw materials and strengthening the domestic supply chain for semiconductor manufacturing.
As part of the initiative, Fujifilm plans to invest approximately INR 800 crore (around US$83 million) to establish a semiconductor materials manufacturing plant in the Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR). The facility is planned to be developed in phases to support the availability and movement of materials required by the Fab.
The companies will also work with Indian chemical manufacturers to support the domestic production of high-purity chemicals. Fujifilm is expected to contribute technology, quality assurance expertise and manufacturing process know-how to help local manufacturers meet the stringent requirements of semiconductor production.
Dr Randhir Thakur, CEO & MD, Tata Electronics, said the partnership would strengthen the materials supply chain supporting the Dholera Fab while contributing to the development of a broader semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem in India.
Teiichi Goto, President, Representative Director & CEO, FUJIFILM Holdings Corporation, said the company views India’s expanding semiconductor market as an important opportunity for its semiconductor materials business. He highlighted the complementary capabilities of Tata Electronics and Fujifilm in advancing India’s semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem.
Tetsuya Iwasaki, Director, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Electronic Materials Business Division, FUJIFILM Corporation, said Fujifilm would support India’s advanced manufacturing ambitions through its portfolio of semiconductor materials covering various stages of the manufacturing process.
Fujifilm’s semiconductor materials portfolio includes photoresists, photolithography-related materials, CMP slurries, post-CMP cleaners, thin-film materials, photosensitive insulating materials including polyimides under the ZEMATES™ brand, and high-purity process chemicals. The company also supplies Wave Control Mosaic™, a range of functional materials including colour filter materials for image sensors.
Dholera Fab to Produce 28nm to 110nm Chips
Tata Electronics is developing its semiconductor Fab in Dholera with a total investment of INR 91,000 crore (approximately US$11 billion). The 300 mm facility is planned to manufacture semiconductor chips across 28nm to 110nm technology nodes, targeting applications including automotive, consumer electronics, computing and data storage, wireless communications and artificial intelligence.
The partnership with Fujifilm comes as construction of the Dholera facility progresses and forms part of Tata Electronics’ efforts to establish an integrated semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem in India.
For Fujifilm, the collaboration expands its presence in India’s emerging semiconductor manufacturing supply chain. The company has semiconductor materials manufacturing and R&D capabilities across Japan, the United States, Europe and Asia, supporting its supply of materials across both advanced and established semiconductor technology nodes.
The partnership is expected to contribute to the localisation of semiconductor material production while creating stronger links between global materials suppliers, Indian chemical manufacturers and semiconductor fabrication operations.
