ZF Commercial Vehicle Control Systems India Limited (ZF CVCS India) has secured business nominations from three leading Indian commercial vehicle original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) for its ESCsmart™ Electronic Stability Control (ESC) solution. The multi-year programmes cover truck platforms using both 24V and 12V electrical architectures, with production scheduled to commence in the third quarter of 2027.
The ESC systems will be locally assembled and supplied from ZF CVCS India’s manufacturing facilities in India, supporting OEMs as they prepare next-generation commercial vehicle platforms to comply with the country’s upcoming safety requirements.
The business wins come ahead of the implementation of India’s AIS regulations, under which Electronic Stability Control will become mandatory for trucks from October 1, 2027. The regulation is expected to accelerate the adoption of advanced active safety technologies across India’s commercial vehicle industry.
Electronic Stability Control is widely recognised as an important active safety technology for reducing loss-of-control incidents and rollover-related crashes. The technology is already mandated in several mature commercial vehicle markets, and its introduction as a requirement for trucks in India represents a significant step towards strengthening vehicle safety standards.
ZF’s ESCsmart™ is designed specifically for commercial vehicles and is intended to help drivers maintain vehicle stability during challenging driving conditions. The system automatically intervenes when vehicle stability approaches a critical threshold, helping reduce the risk of rollover, skidding and jack-knifing in truck-trailer combinations.
According to ZF, ESCsmart™ has already been deployed on more than 60,000 vehicles in India and benefits from the company’s more than two decades of ESC development expertise. Globally, ZF has delivered more than 3 million ESC systems.
The latest nominations highlight the growing role of local engineering, validation and manufacturing capabilities as Indian commercial vehicle OEMs prepare to meet the upcoming safety regulations.
